N°555

From England, the N°555 Apache of Nick Wilkinson and Matthew Wilson.

We are proud to present a new team entered in the Prologue Venezia Montecarlo, from England with the N°555 Apache of Nick Wilkinson and Matthew Wilson. This historic boat won the London-Montecarlo of 1972 and the Class 2 World title in Venice in 1979.

It isn’t often that a piece of offshore history signs up for a race. From England comes the Apache N°555 of Nick Wilkinson and Matthew Wilson: a hull with a palmarès most of the boats on the startlist can only dream of.

A museum boat, still racing

The Apache 555 won the London-Montecarlo of 1972 and the Class 2 World Championship in Venice in 1979. Half a century later she returns to the very waters that crowned her, in a race built around the bond between Venice and the Principality.

Entering a historic hull in the Prologue isn’t nostalgia: it’s proof that the “Dakar of the sea” speaks the same language as the great British offshore classics, from which it inherits its format and spirit.

Back in the Adriatic

The ninth-edition Prologue runs from 20 to 23 July 2023 over three legs, from the Venice Arsenale to Rodi Garganico via Cervia · Milano Marittima and Pescara. The Apache 555 is one of the most fascinating faces of a startlist that lines up race boats, Italian yards and cross-Channel legends.

Every entry is in the stories from the Prologue; the race history and the 1990 → 2023 roll of honour are on the The Race page.
